RIP Whitney Houston
I was so sad and shocked to hear about Whitney Houston this morning. Watching a tribute on 4Music has reminded me just how many great songs she did and what a wonderful voice she had. It brings back so many memories of my childhood and it's made me feel so emotional.
It's also shocking to see her decline over the web and to see how much her battle with drugs had damaged her voice and her looks. In her day, she truly was an angel. Over the years, from Judy Garland to Amy Winehouse, we've lost so many greats over the years. I've listened to people say how they watched Whitney's decline and it made me think 'Well why the hell didn't you do something about it?'
I know people have to want to be helped and want to change, no-one else can make them but when are we going to start giving more help to people like this and the everyday people on the street?

Spirit Day - 20/10/11
I'm celebrating Spirit Day by wearing purple today, in remembrance of all the gay teenagers who have committed suicide due to bullying. It's so sad and incredible that in this day and age some of our young people feel that ending their lives is the only way due to hate and discrimination.
Earlier this week I felt so inspired by the story of a 100 year old Asian man who ran the Toronto marathon and wasn't too far off winning. At 89 he suffered a tragic blow when his wife and son were killed and not surprisingly went into a depression. Eventually he rediscovered his passion for running and this helped him fight on and continue living his life to the full.
What is it about a human beings spirit or make-up that sometimes we have the strength to fight and other times carrying on just seems too much?
